Car Chase Ensues After Man Points Gun At Bystanders, Report Says

BENSON – Law enforcement officers are still trying to identify a man who reportedly pointed a gun at bystanders at GALOT Motorsports Park near Benson. A high speed chase ensued.

At 10:22pm Saturday, Oct. 16th, Johnston County deputies received a report of a disturbance at GALOT. Authorities said a man reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it other people. The suspect then jumped in the passenger seat of a Buick SUV and fled from the scene.

Responding deputies spotted the SUV nearby and witnessed it fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers pulled over the vehicle on Highway 242 South. However, the vehicle accelerated away from the traffic stop reaching speeds of 80mph in a 55mph zone while passing other vehicles.

Benson Police joined deputies with the pursuit as the car entered the Benson city limits. While the SUV was traveling over the I-95 bridge on NC50, the passenger fled on foot towards the interstate. A K-9 attempted to track the suspect but he eluded arrest.

The driver of the SUV stopped the vehicle nearby. She was identified as Liliana Aquino Castillo, 23, of Merrifield Road, Rocky Mount. A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a 9mm handgun and a small amount of suspected heroin.

Castillo was charged with several traffic offenses including felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. She was also charged with felony possession of heroin and held on a $25,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail. Deputies also served Castillo with four outstanding warrants from Edgecombe County.
