Chase Ends When Suspect Crashes SUV

A two-county chase ended when the suspect crashed his vehicle. It started around 2:00am Sunday on Highway 50 North approximately five miles from Benson.

A Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team deputy attempted to stop the driver of a Ford Explorer for speeding 76 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The driver refused to pull over. The chase continued southbound on Highway 50 into Benson, then onto Highway 27 into Harnett County.

Inside Harnett County, the fleeing driver attempted to make a sharp turn onto a dirt road but was traveling too fast. The SUV ran off the roadway into a ditch and overturned.

The driver, Daroyl Lynn Little Jr., 27, of E. Benton Street, Benson, was charged with several offenses including felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. He was held on a $25,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail.

No injuries were reported.
