The NC State Highway Patrol assisted Nash County deputies with the pursuit, involving numerous units including the NC State Highway Patrol helicopter tracking the fleeing Honda from overhead.

The fleeing suspect driver ended up turning down a dead-end dirt road, frightening residents along the normally quite path before driving straight into a private pond. A resident who said that her young children often play on that path, reported that she saw the car “going crazy fast” down the road in front of her house then go across the lawn followed by two Nash County Sheriff’s Office cars.

After driving into the pond, the driver did not attempt to get away but reportedly refused to exit the water-logged car before being pepper-sprayed, according to a witness.

The suspect was eventually transported back to Nash County by sheriff’s deputies.

There were mud covered law enforcement officers but no injuries reported. It is unknown what led to the pursuit.
