Clayton Police Arrest Motorist For Habitual Drunk Driving

CLAYTON – A Smithfield man was arrested and his vehicle seized after a traffic stop by Clayton Police.  On Sunday, a Clayton police officer stopped a car on Highway 42 East near Front Street for displaying a fictitious license tag. 

The driver, identified as Elwood Lynn, 60, of Smithfield, reportedly failed a field sobriety test.  He was arrested for driving while impaired and registered 0.10 on the Breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08.

Police said Lynn’s driver’s license were revoked due to a prior DWI and he had three previous DWI convictions since 2014.
Lynn was charged with driving while impaired, habitual driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license, and a registration violation.
