A 55-year-old Mecklenburg County man was arrested on Sunday afternoon after police say he brought items from the Clayton Walmart that he hadn’t purchased yet and attempted to “return” them in exchange for a gift card.
Walmart personnel allegedly told Clayton Police they spotted the man taking two pairs of men’s basketball shorts from store shelves, bring them immediately to customer service instead of checking them out at a register, and exchanging them for a $21.26 Walmart gift card. Surveillance camera footage reportedly showed the man entering Walmart with a shopping cart full of empty plastic bags.
