Clayton Woman Defrauded $112,548 From Insurance Company, NCDOI Says

A Clayton woman has been arrested on felony charges following an investigation by agents with the NC Department of Insurance (NCDOI). LaShonda Nicole Wood, 46, was arrested July 29th by Clayton Police on NCDOI warrants.

Wood was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.

According to the NCDOI, Wood filed 25 false supplemental insurance claims with Aflac for serves dating back to December 10, 2015. The alleged fake claims included payment for illnesses and services for multiple doctors and hospitals. Authorities said the illnesses, including claims for a heart attack and diabetes, never happened. Claims were also made for services that were never performed.

Wood allegedly filed the 25 claims in the names her husband, five children, and herself. By doing so, she reportedly defrauded $112,548.93 from Aflac.

Wood was confined in the Johnston County Jail on a $150,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to make a court appearance August 19th on the felony charges.
