Report: Clerk Stole Thousands From Convenience Stores

A former Johnston County convenience store clerk is accused of stealing a large sum of money from her employer. Amanda Gail Poole, 39, of United Street, Garner was arrested September 28th following an investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Clayton Police Department.

Authorities said Poole worked at Murphy Express locations at 12889 US Highway 70 Business West in Clayton and 4993 NC 42 Highway West, Garner (40/42).

Poole would allegedly ring up sales for merchandise. After customers left the store she would cancel the transactions. At the end of her shift, she would remove the equivalent amount of money from the cash register for the cancelled transactions.

Poole allegedly stole approximately $6,300 from the NC Highway 42 West location. An additional $1,008.18 was reportedly taken from the US 70 Business West store. Altogether $7,308.18 in cash was reported stolen.

Poole was charged with felony larceny by an employee. She was given a $10,000 secured bond.
