A routine traffic stop for a seat belt violation Tuesday night resulted in the arrest of a 23 year-old man on felony cocaine possession.
Around 9:10pm, a Selma police officer was on patrol on US 70 near JR Road. The driver of a gray Kia saw the officer and reportedly reached to put on his seat belt. The officer stopped the car on US 70 near Ricks Road and allegedly detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
During a search of the car, approximately 1 gram of suspected cocaine was found in a bag under a box of diapers in the back seat. Police said they also found a marijuana pipe.
Henry Vladimir Martinez of US 70-A, Pine Level allegedly had white powder in his nostril which police suspected was cocaine. Police took a cotton swab of the powder as evidence.
While being processed at the Johnston County Jail, Martinez allegedly told police, “Man I f**ked up. I got twins on the way.”
Martinez was charged with felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $10,000. Police also impounded the Kia he was operating.
