Cocaine, Handgun Seized From Felon During Smithfield Traffic Stop

A 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, 13 rounds of ammunition, 3.5 grams of cocaine, digital scales, and drug paraphernalia were reportedly found in a car stopped on Highway 210 in Smithfield.

A Johnston County SAFE Team deputy stopped a 2010 Ford passenger car around 5:30pm Thursday. Officers said the driver, Brandon Lee O’Neal, 24, of Pond Avenue, Clayton had a suspended drivers license.  After being asked to exit the vehicle, officers allegedly located the handgun and cocaine in a backpack.

O’Neal was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed gun, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $75,000 secured bond.
