Commissioners Make Appointment, Approve DOT Request, Declare Surplus Property

Johnston County Commissioners have approved a request by the Town of Clayton to add Johnny House to the Johnston County Board of Adjustment. House lives on Covered Bridge Road in the Clayton ETJ. The Clayton Town Board voted on December 5th to ask commissioners to appoint House. Commissioners approved the request Jan. 3rd. His term will expire on December 31, 2019.

In other board action, commissioners have approved a request by the NC Department of Transportation to add three streets in the Black Creek Crossing Subdivision in the Pleasant Grove Township to the State Maintained Road System. They include Marshview Circle, Crosswalk Lane, and Creekcrest Court. The total length of the roadways is 0.441 miles.

Two ambulances were declared surplus property by the board during their January meeting. A 2001 Ford Wheeled Coach with 145,583 miles was inherited by Johnston County EMS from Clayton EMS.  A 2009 Ford Wheeled Coach with 136,628 miles was inherited from Smithfield EMS. Both ambulances have engine issues.  The 2001 model also has electrical problems and because they are no longer dependable are not in the EMS fleet, according to Josh Holloman, EMS Division Chief.
