A convicted sex offender who had previously been convicted for the sexual exploitation of minors has been arrested by the NC State Bureau of Investigation.
SBI agents and federal Homeland Security investigators conducted a search warrant Friday at the home of 41 year-old Mitch Hamilton Parrish on Cashew Lane in the Maplewood Run subdivision off Cleveland Road near Smithfield.
The search warrant was obtained after an undercover operation conducted by the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children (NCICAC) Taskforce allegedly identified Parrish’s residence as a distribution point for child pornography.
During the search, digital files depicting child pornography were reportedly located on Parrish’s computers and electronic storage devices. Parrish was interviewed during the investigation and allegedly confessed to downloading digital files depicting the exploitation of children.
Parrish was arrested by the SBI and charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $1 million secured bond.
