A Johnston County deputy responded to a larceny call and ended up arresting a person at the scene for felony drug possession who also happened to be wanted out of the state of Wisconsin.
On Monday, deputies responded to Tralee Drive near Smithfield after a woman reported that someone had allegedly removed money from an unlocked safe inside her home. She gave officers the name of a possible suspect but there was no immediate evidence connecting the person to the theft.
While on the scene, the woman told deputies they should arrest a man who was at the address, 29 year-old Andre Maurice Mallett, because he had allegedly hidden a brown shoebox containing marijuana under the porch before they arrived.
Deputies checked underneath the porch and located the brown shoebox which reportedly contained marijuana, marijuana seeds, a partially smoke blunt, baggies and a scale. Mallett allegedly admitted the shoebox and its contents belonging to him.
Mallett was charged with possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance. While being processed into jail, authorities learned Mallett was wanted on a probation violation warrant from Wisconsin. He was held without bond pending extradition to Wisconsin.
