Couple Charged With Bentonville Robbery

A Smithfield man and his girlfriend have been arrested on robbery charges after allegedly robbing his ex-girlfriend earlier this week.

Vance Earl McDaniels Jr., 25, of Laurel Drive, Smithfield and Courtney Elizabeth Mitchell, 26, of the 6800 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road, Four Oaks were arrested Wednesday afternoon by Smithfield Police at the Probation Office on Berkshire Road.

Around 2:30am Monday, Feb. 11th, a 34 year-old Four Oaks woman said McDaniels asked her to drive him to a convenience store on Devil’s Racetrack Road at Harper House Road in the Bentonville community.  After arriving, the victim alleges McDaniels stole her money and prescription medication before leaving in another vehicle parked across the street at a church.

The victim was not harmed.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Office investigators said McDaniels had previously dated the victim but was now in a relationship with Mitchell.

McDaniels and Mitchell were both charged with common law robbery and conspiracy.  McDaniels was held under a $35,000 bond. Mitchell was incarcerated under a $30,000 bond.
