A Princeton couple was arrested Monday on child abuse charges after Johnston County deputies were called to a disturbance.
When authorities arrived they said 28 year-old Ryan Elliot Godwin allegedly told them he had taken suspected methamphetamine away from the mother of his infant son and wanted to give it to law enforcement. Deputies said Godwin and the child’s mother, 25 year-old Brittany Elaine Pearce, both appeared to be under the influence of an impairing substance.
Pearce denied the 1 gram of methamphetamine belonged to her. During a search of her car two used hypodermic needles and a digital scale were allegedly found.
A relative was called and took custody of the infant.
Godwin was charged with misdemeanor child abuse. Pearce was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. A magistrate did not find probable cause to charge Pearce with meth possession.
Both were given $2,000 secured bonds.
The Department of Social Services is also investigating.
