Couple Stole From Dead Man, JCSO Says

FOUR OAKS – A couple who was being assisted by a Four Oaks man are accused of stealing from him after he died. Jaquavious DaQuan Snead and Mirand Elizabeth Pickett, both age 25, were arrested December 3rd on criminal warrants by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the 46 year-old victim allowed Snead and Pickett, who were homeless, to stay on his property. After the man passed away, other family members noticed his debit card was missing. The family also discovered an air gun, crossbow, and video game system were missing from his house.

The theft was reported November 18th to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives began investigating and reportedly determined the stolen debit card had been used by the couple to purchase items from Walmart in Smithfield after the man’s death. They were also linked to the property theft.

Both Snead and Pickett were charged with two counts each of obtaining property by false pretense, one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, felony conspiracy, and felony larceny.

Pickett was also served with two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in district court on drug paraphernalia and simple possession of a controlled substance charges.

The suspects were confined in the Johnston County Jail on $100,000 bonds.
