Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats announced Friday the arrests of two suspects ending a 6 week crime spree. The suspects are facing a combined 171 criminal charges.
Christopher Joseph Ibarra, 38, of Old Stage Road, Coats is in the Harnett County Jail under a $615,000 bond. Charles Edward McGinty, 40, of Morris Day Lane, Lillington is being held under a $560,590 bond.
A total of 20 cases including residential and business break-ins, vehicle break-ins, and vehicles thefts involving 38 victims committed between April 11th and May 31st were cleared with the arrests.
Both Ibarra and McGinty are convicted felons and were on probation at time of crimes.
In a press release, Sheriff Coats said both men were arrested Thursday immediately following two attempted residential break ins, a vehicle break in and a vehicle theft on Elliott Bridge Road in Bunnlevel. The suspects were chased into a wooded area by a citizen armed with a firearm.
Deputies arrived in the area and located one suspect driving a stolen vehicle and the other was taken into custody following a track by Sheriff’s Office K-9.
Additional charges by the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office will likely be filed as the investigation continues.
In addition to these charges, Ibarra and McGinty are facing charges by Sanford Police, Mt. Gilead Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
