Customer Arrested After Not Returning Loaner Vehicle

A customer who was given a loaner vehicle while their car was being serviced but never returned the loaner has been arrested.

Smithfield Police said Glenn Thomas Shaw of Princeton took his car to Classic Ford in Smithfield around June 29th to be serviced. Shaw was given a 2017 Ford F-150 truck to drive for a few hours. Shaw later demanded his car be taken to another garage to be serviced.   The dealership agreed and upon completion of the service asked for the loaner to be returned.

Police Captain R. Sheppard said the dealership went to great lengths to get Shaw to return the loaner truck before notifying authorities. The company mailed letters, made phone calls, and even went by his home.

Shaw was arrested last week on an unrelated offense. While in jail, Smithfield Police served a felony warrant on the 42 year-old man charging him with larceny of a motor vehicle.  His bail was set at $10,000.

Police and the dealership still haven’t been able to locate the gray 2017 Ford F-150 truck Shaw drove off the lot in June. The truck is valued at $47,645.
