MICRO – The State Highway Patrol has charged a Selma man with death by motor vehicle in connection with Wednesday’s fatal collision between a pickup and motorcycle. It happened at 5:54pm on Highway 301 at Pittman Road near Micro.
Jimmy Bryant Radford, 59, of Selma was operating a 2006 Dodge truck on Pittman Road. Radford stopped for a stop sign at the intersection. He began to travel across the intersection but pulled directly into the path of a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven southbound on Highway 301 and operated by Randy Eugene Brown, 55, of Pikeville.
Brown died at the scene from his injuries. A passenger on the motorcycle, Robyn Renee Scott, 49, of Pikeville was seriously injured and transported to Wake Med in Raleigh.
According to an accident report, the motorcycle was traveling at 55mph in a 55mph zone at the time of impact with the pickup. The pickup was traveling at 10mph. There were no skid marks or tire impressions from either vehicle prior to the fatal collision. The report said Brown and Scott were both wearing helmets.
Radford, who was not injured, was charged by Trooper M. Corral with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
