Deputies Arrest Driver Involved In Early-Morning Chase

Johnston County SAFE Team deputies arrested a 25 year-old Selma woman who reportedly tried to outrun officers.  The pursuit began at 2:42AM Tuesday on Highway 42 west of Clayton.

A deputy spotted a 2000 Dodge pickup traveling at 30 MPH in a 55 MPH zone and crossing the center line.  The officer attempted to stop the truck but the driver allegedly failed to pull over, then turned off their headlights.

Operating without headlights, the truck turned eastbound on the Highway 70 Clayton Bypass and then exited onto Ranch Road.  While exiting, the driver tossed an object from the window.  The driver stopped a short distance away.

Mariana Paula Solache of Ballpark Road, Selma was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.   Deputies later found the object tossed from the truck. They said it was a marijuana cigarette.

The truck was seized under the NC Run And Your Done law.  Under the law if the defendant is convicted of felony fleeing to elude, the vehicle can be auctioned off and sold with the proceeds turned over to the state school system.
