Deputies Find 11 Pounds Of Marijuana After Stopping Car For Speeding

A driver stopped for speeding on Highway 42 was arrested after an odor of marijuana allegedly coming from the vehicle lead an officer to 11 pounds of marijuana inside.

Around 1:00am Sunday, a deputy with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office was running radar on Highway 42 East of Clayton near Thanksgiving Fire Department Road when he clocked a 2019 Audi traveling at 70 miles per hour in a 55 MPH zone. The officer stopped the Audi and began issuing the driver a citation for speeding.

During the vehicle stop, the officer said he detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. During a search 11 pounds of marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash was located and seized. Deputies also impounded the vehicle.

Thomas Arthur Austin Jr., 37, of Goldsboro was charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.  Austin was incarcerated in lieu of a $125,000 bond.
