Deputies Link Teen To Assault, Robbery

A Johnston County teenager was arrested Monday morning after being linked by detectives with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office to the beating and robbery of two teens on Bratton Drive off Highway 42 near I-40 in Cleveland.

Around 11:50pm on July 19th, the two 16 year-old victims, both students at Cleveland High, said they were in a parking lot when a group of 4 to 5 other young males approached. The victims were physically assaulted and seriously injured. After the assault, one of the suspects took money from one of the victim’s pockets and also broke into his car and took items.

Isaiah Devon Simmons, 17, of the 3200 block of Barber Mill Road, Clayton was charged today (Monday) with two counts of assault inflicting serious injury, and one count each of robbery, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and conspiracy.  Simmons was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $50,000 bond.

Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said additional charges are possible.
