The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of several suspects on drug charges.
Benson Traffic Stop
Around 3:10pm last Friday, deputies stopped a car for a traffic violation in the 1400 block of Drag Strip Road near Benson. During a search of the car, 2 bags containing approximately one gram each of crystal methamphetamine was reportedly located along with a glass jar containing marijuana residue.
The driver of the vehicle, Ariel Evander Puente, 21, of Reaves Road, Angier was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. Puente was taken to the Johnston County Jail and held under a $30,000 bond.
Two Arrested In Construction Zone
Friday night, Johnston County deputies were assisting with traffic control in a work zone on Highway 42 East near Highway 39 outside of Selma and arrested two drivers.
Deputies said 39 year-old Aaron Christopher Turnage of Denvale Drive, Selma was arrested after a deputy noticed an odor of marijuana was coming from his vehicle. During a search of his car, a bag of suspected marijuana was allegedly found in the vehicle. Officers said they also found suspected methamphetamine in a black box along with a glass smoking pipe.
Turnage was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
About 45 minutes later, another driver was stopped by officers at the work zone and just over one ounce of powder cocaine was reportedly found along with a small amount of marijuana. The cocaine had a potential street value of $2,950.
William Coleman Gilbert, 30, of Deer Trail, Clayton was charged with trafficking in cocaine, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gilbert was held under a $30,000 bond.
Welfare Check Leads To Molly
Deputies were requested to check the welfare of a juvenile at a home on Hinnant-Edgerton Road near Selma around 11:00am Sunday. Officers arrived at the home and located the juvenile and an adult male. Officers requested to search the residence of the male, Richard Alexander Hinnant, 40, and received approval. During the search a bag containing a small amount of marijuana was reportedly located. Deputies said they also found a pink crystalized substance that appeared to be Molly, a synthetic drug.
Hinnant was arrested on 7 drug offenses, 5 of those being felonies. He was incarcerated in the Johnston County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
