Two inmates in the Johnston County Jail are accused of assaulting a detention officer, who required hospitalization as a result of his injuries. The incident happened last Thursday.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, the 47 year-old detention officer was attempting to deal with the two unruly inmates when he was assaulted. The officer was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. No additional details about the assault were released.
Gerald Thomas Holmes III, 26, and Jonathan Lynn Jenkins, 47, both of Smithfield, were charged with felony assault causing physical injury on a detention employee.
