SMITHFIELD – A North Carolina developer has requested the Smithfield Town Council voluntarily annex 85.8 acres of land.
Smithfield Growth LLC, based in Sanford, NC, has petitioned the Town of Smithfield to annex the property, located between Booker Dairy Road and M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway, off N. Brightleaf Boulevard and behind Walmart.

Developers are proposing 209 detached single family residential home lots, 94 attached single family townhouses, and 324 apartment units on the 85 acre parcel.
The future development will require new streets, sidewalks, water and sewer lines, electrical service, and a pump station, according to a Staff Report submitted to the council.
A public hearing has been set for January 21, 2025 to consider the petition. The land presently adjoins the city limits.

Yes i think the co.tax is way to high for seniors like me and others on fixed income.alot of states like ga.cuts taxs in half when you retire and after 70 they alienated them.
We have many benefits on property taxes. I lived in my house for years until one day I read the back of the tax form. I qualified for a few programs for years and did not even know it. Was easy to go to the court house and get it handled .
NC doesn’t do enough for seniors.
Ridiculous. Hope they don’t get it enough is enough take all these trees away clear everything out because you know nobody needs fresh air from our trees
This is just outright ridiculous and it all comes down to the root of all evil, money. This is hurting the people Johnson County that pay property taxes.
Thank God the town gives a 50% discount on taxes if you’re disabled
