Driver Arrested Following Car Chase

A 40 year-old man driving without a license was arrested following a short chase in the Cleveland area Sunday morning.

Around 12:30am, a Johnston County deputy was sitting stationary on Glen Road off Highway 42. A white Volvo station wagon began to drive past, but when the operator saw the deputy he allegedly slammed on brakes and turned in behind a business.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver reportedly failed to pull over for a blue light and siren. The chase continued through the McDonald’s parking lot and then into another business parking lot. The deputy was able to get in front of the station wagon and force the driver to stop.  The driver attempted to backup but was detained before he could flee again.

Johnny Vega of Lainey Street, Garner was charged with fleeing to elude arrest and driving without a license.  He was given a $5,000 bond on the charges.
