Multiple charges have been filed against a driver who tried to outrun police while traveling in reverse.
Around 11:00PM Friday, Selma Police said they were contacted by a mother concerned her son might be missing and endangered. The man was last seen in the 800 block of West Preston Street. Police drove to the location and began looking for the missing man. Officers said they spotted a person matching his description inside a white Nissan Altima.
When an officer began to approach the vehicle, the driver put the car in reverse and began traveling backwards along Preston Street. Police pursued the driver at speeds of 45 MPH on Preston Street, across Highway 301, and then onto Raiford Street before he stopped the car and fled on foot. Andrea Dee Prince, 35, of Selma was arrested following a brief foot pursuit.
Police said they found a woman and baby inside his car. Prince reportedly admitted that marijuana and crack cocaine found inside the car belonged to him.
No injuries were reported. Prince was not the man who had been reported missing.
Prince was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, resisting and delaying, and child abuse. Bail was set at $50,000.
The 2015 Nissan was seized under the Run and You’re Done Law.
