A 32 year-old man is facing a long list of charges following an overnight high speed chase in Johnston County.
It began on Interstate 40 when a state trooper clocked a BMW traveling at 108 miles per hour. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver reportedly accelerated to 120 miles per hour in an attempt to elude arrest.
The chase continued on I-40 to Benson then I-95 northbound to Four Oaks where the driver lost control at the 87 mile marker near the Keen Road exit and crashed.
Troopers arrested Anand Rushikesk Mehta of Selma. Officers discovered a 7 month-old child in the vehicle.
Mehta was charged with numerous offenses including felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired, driving an unregistered vehicle and operating a vehicle with no insurance.
Mehta was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.
According to the NC Department of Public Safety website, Mehta was convicted in Wake County in 2012 for felony fleeing to elude arrest and DWI. He also has prior convictions for assault and drug possession. Photo by John Payne
