Driver Leads Officers On Three County High Speed Chase

A 33 year-old woman wanted for failing to appear in court led officers from three counties on a weekend high speed chase.

It started around 1:00am Saturday. A Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team deputies was running radar on Highway 42 West near Highway 50 and spotted a car traveling 89mph in a 45mph zone. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but it failed to pull over. The chase continued into Wake County on Highway 42 with speeds varying between 80 and 100mph.

The fleeing driver traveled into the Fuquay Varina city limits, then south to Angier in Harnett County, back into Johnston County on several rural roadways, then into Harnett County where Dunn Police attempted to deploy stop sticks in their city limits but the driver drove around them.

The chase ended on Interstate 95 near Dunn after multiple law enforcement officers were able to perform a rolling road block on the suspect’s vehicle.

Crystal Margaret Poole of McDougald Road, Lillington was arrested on multiple offenses including fleeing to elude arrest, speeding, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, and possession of methamphetamines.  Poole was wanted at the time of the pursuit for failing to appear in Sampson County court for felony methamphetamine possession and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges.

Poole was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $103,000 bond.  No injuries were reported.
