MICRO – A Selma man is facing traffic and narcotics charges after he reportedly sped past a Johnston County deputy sheriff. Kalvin Devon Williams, 36, of N. Sharpe Street is charged with speeding, reckless driving to endanger, unsafe passing and possession of marijuana.
Around 11:45am Sunday, a SAFE Team deputy was stationary monitoring traffic on Highway 301 near Micro when a silver Dodge Charger traveling at more than 100mph reportedly sped past the officer. Before the deputy could get behind the speeding Charger to attempt a traffic stop, Williams had failed to make a high-speed turn from Highway 301 onto Fayetteville Street and wrecked. He attempted to flee on foot but was detained.
Williams was transported to jail and later released on a $1,500 bond. No injuries were reported.
