Thanks to alert school employees a suspected drunk driver was arrested in the carpool line of a Johnston County elementary school.
Tuesday afternoon, employees notified authorities after becoming concerned about the driver of a blue van in the lane to pick up children at Cleveland Elementary School on Cleveland Road.
A Johnston County deputy responded and located the van in the parking lot. When the driver rolled down the window, the officer said he detected an odor of alcohol. Corey Redman, 29, of Laney Street, Garner was arrested for driving while impaired. He reportedly registered 0.16, double the legal limit of 0.08.
Officials would not confirm that Redman was at school to pick up a child, however the Department of Social Services was notified about the incident.
“We want our parents and community to know that Johnston County Public Schools acted quickly to involve law enforcement. This is our practice,” stated Crystal Kimpson Roberts, Chief of Communication and Engagement for Johnston County Public Schools.
