DWI Suspect Arrested Following Accident In Front Of Courthouse

A 66 year-old Four Oaks man didn’t have very far to go to jail after being arrested following an accident on Second Street at the Johnston County Courthouse.

Around 2:00pm Wednesday, Smithfield Police said a 2014 Buick collided with a Town of Smithfield utility pole on Second Street between Johnston and Market Streets at the courthouse. The driver continued on a very short distance before stopping on Market Street.

Witnesses initially thought the driver may have experienced a medical issue but police said the man had a strong odor of alcohol.

Bruce Roy Archambeault, 66, of Coachman’s Cove Road,  was arrested for driving while impaired. He registered 0.18 on the breathalyzer, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.  Archambeault was later released on a $2,000 bond. No injuries were reported.
