DWI Suspect Arrested In Restaurant Drive Thru Lane

Selma Police arrested a Smithfield man on driving while impaired charges after being called to the drive thru lane at McDonald’s on Highway 70 around 3:00am Saturday.

Police received a report of a possible impaired driver and arrived to find the suspect sitting in a Chrysler 300 car eating a cheeseburger and dozing.

The driver, identified as 39 year-old Teo Whitfield McPhatter of May Drive, allegedly admitted to drinking a few beers before driving.  Police said McPhatter failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and transported to the Selma Police Department for a breathalyzer test.  He reportedly refused to submit to a breath sample.

He was transported to the Johnston County Jail and charged with driving while impaired. He was released on a $5,000 bond pending a June 19th appearance in district court.
