SELMA – A 30 year-old man was arrested Sunday morning by Selma police officers following an accident a short distance from his home. At 3:49am, police were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on River Road at River Oaks Drive. The driver of a 2000 Chrysler van had attempted to turn from River Road onto River Oaks Drive but lost control and struck a utility pole, breaking the pole at the ground.
The driver had left the scene before police arrived. He was located minutes later at his home on River Oaks Drive.
Ulises Rodriguez-De La Cruz reportedly admitted to officers he had been driving the van at the time of the crash. He declined medical treatment.
Rodriguez-De La Cruz later registered 0.16 on the Breathalyzer. He was charged with driving while impaired and driving without a license.
The Town of Selma Electric Department responded and replaced the utility pole. Repair costs were estimated at $3,000. Damage to the van was estimated at $1,500.
