An employee of the Food Lion located at 10105 US 70 Business Highway in Clayton, was charged yesterday (Monday) with taking about $86 from the store.
According to a Clayton police spokesperson, 18-year-old Rickey Rodriguez was very cooperative with his store’s Loss Prevention team and Clayton police officers.
The thefts were associated with a CoinStar machine in the grocery store in which customers can bring in coins, the machine counts the coins, prints a receipt, and the cashier gives the customer the amount of cash listed on the receipt.
The store’s Loss Prevention Officer said video surveillance showed Rodriguez give CoinStar customers their cash, but later duplicate the same transactions and put the money in his pocket. One transaction was for roughly $65 on July 6th and the second was for about $21 on July 8th.
Rodriguez is charged with felony larceny by an employee and given a $5,000 secure bond and later released to appear later on the charges with a court-appointed attorney.
