Three employees at two Smithfield retail businesses have been arrested on felony theft charges.
On February 13th, loss prevention personnel at Walmart at 1299 N. Brightleaf Boulevard reported an employee had allegedly stolen an air gun valued at $26.73. Mitchell Donnie Curtis III, 19, of N. Lakeside Drive, Smithfield was charged with felony larceny by an employee. Curtis was held in the Johnston County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
On February 14th, an assistant manager at Rack Room Shoes on Outlet Center Drive was arrested for allegedly stealing four pair of shoes valued at $137.47 plus a combined total of $273.74 in cash from the business. Bethany Lynn Scott, 21, of Juanita Loop, Lucama was charged with three counts of embezzlement, and one count each of larceny by an employee and obtaining property by false pretenses. A magistrate set bail at $15,000.
And on February 15th, police returned to Rack Room Shoes after a second employee was reportedly caught stealing five pair of shoes valued at $300. Sayveonna Sierra Richardson, 19, of Powell Street, Smithfield was arrested and charged with felonious larceny by an employee. Ms. Richardson was transported to the Johnston County Jail and given a $5,000 bond.
Smithfield Police investigated and filed charges in all three incidents.
