Evidence From Nash County Shooting Located Inside Suspect’s Johnston County Home

NASHVILLE, NC – Evidence from a weekend shooting in Nash County was recovered from a Johnston County address after a search warrant was conducted on the home.

On Saturday, March 19th at 4:35pm, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 7600 block of Old White Oak Road near Nashville. EMS performed life saving measures on the victim, Alfredo Maldonado, age 41, who was transported to UNC Nash Hospital.

Investigators believe the suspect, Marco Alonso Navarro, age 35, of the 13000 block of Buck Road, Middlesex (Johnston County) went to Maldonado’s home where there was a disagreement about money over ownership of a vehicle.

Navarro reportedly pulled out a rifle and shot towards Maldonado multiple times, striking him once in the lower abdomen. Navarro fled before Nash County deputies arrived.

With the assistance of the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Nash County Criminal Investigations Division conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s residence at in Johnston County. During the course of the search, evidence related to the crime was located and seized.

On Sunday, March 20th, Navarro was located by Nash County officers in his vehicle in a parking lot on West Gannon Avenue in Zebulon. With the assistance of Zebulon Police Department, the Navarro was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Nash County Jail where he was incarcerated under a $250,000 secured bond

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The victim has since been transferred to Vidant Hospital in Greenville, and is listed in stable condition.

Our agency will continue to strive to work hard to get dangerous criminals that threaten the safety of our citizens off the streets.”
