Family Displaced After Truck Slams Into Home

BENSON – A family of four was displaced after a pickup truck slammed into their home Monday night. It happened around 7:00pm at 110 Hunterwood Place off Highway 301 North.

Benson Police said Wilbert Pinkney Coats III, 44, of 107 Hunterwood Place was operating a 2007 Chevy truck when he ran off the subdivision street to the right striking a mailbox at 106 Hunterwood Place. The truck traveled through the yard at 108 Hunterwood Place before striking two parked vehicles and the garage at 110 Hunterwood Place.

Coats was transported to WakeMed for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Three adults and an infant who lived in the home were displaced after the residence was deemed unsafe due to structural damage.

Police estimated the pickup was traveling at 50 mph in a 20 mph zone when it left the roadway and struck the home.

Police Chief Greg Percy said traffic charges against Coats are pending.
