Father Charged With Murder In Death Of 5 Day-Old Baby

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the father of a five day-old child on homicide charges.  On November 23rd at 2:53am, the Harnett County 911 Center received a call from an address on Cameron Hill Road reporting an unresponsive baby. Deputies arrived on the scene and located a pale, unresponsive baby being treated by EMS.

The child’s mother and uncle were at the home attempting to render aid.  The male child was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched into the suspicious death and sheriff’s detectives awaited the results of an autopsy report from the state medical examiner.  The report was received and reportedly indicated there was obvious signs of blunt force trauma to the infant child’s head.

Detectives said they also learned the child’s father was in the home the morning the baby died.

Christopher Joseph Riddle, 28, of Blenheim, South Carolina was arrested in South Carolina on a murder warrant. He was extradited to Harnett County on December 3rd and placed in the Harnett County Detention Center without bond.
