Felon Arrested After Incident In Convenience Store Parking Lot

A convicted felon was arrested on numerous charges following an incident in the parking lot of a Smithfield-area convenience store.  Around 6:45am Saturday, Johnston County deputies responded to Jimmy’s Gas Mart on Highway 70 West at Swift Creek Road for a report of a man in the parking lot attempting to giveaway a gun.

The suspect had already left the parking lot when officers arrived but responding deputies located his vehicle on Highway 70 near Clayton and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, Joseph Butler Bradley Jr., 33, of Emmaus Church Road in Mt. Olive, allegedly admitted to having a firearm in the trunk of his car.  During a search, a Remington rifle and ammunition was located. Officers also found 29.8 grams of suspected heroin, 16.9 grams of cocaine, 4.3 grams of methamphetamines, an undisclosed amount of cash, and a large number of hypodermic needles and smoking pipes.

Bradley was arrested on three felony and two misdemeanor offenses including possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance.  Bail was set at $100,000. His 2008 BMW was also impounded.
