A convicted felon who fled from Johnston County deputies is being held on a $2 million bond. On Dec. 21st, SAFE Team deputies pulled over a car for speeding 90mph in a 55mph zone on Highway 70 Business near Smithfield. During the traffic stop the driver, Adair Jimenez Calderon of Orlando, Florida sped away.
Deputies pursued the vehicle on Highway 70 east reaching speeds of 100mph. Near the intersection of Highway 70 and 70-A in Princeton, the Calderon attempted to make a sharp turn but lost control of his car and struck a ditch. Two patrol cars were damaged during the high speed pursuit.
Authorities said the 26 year-old suspect had a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, numerous narcotics, drug paraphernalia and a large undisclosed amount of cash in his vehicle. Calderon faces numerous drug and traffic charges including fleeing to elude arrest, hit and run, assault on a government official, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon.
