CLAYTON – A residential house fire was reported around 9:30pm Wednesday in the 2000 block of Coachman Court near Clayton. Firefighters found a smoldering fire in a doublewide mobile home which, according to one of the four residents, was also home to approximately 50 cats.

Firefighters reported that they attempted to isolate the fire away from the cats and that all of the animals may have survived. Some were in cages, while others were thought to have escaped the blaze on their own.

One resident was injured when breaking a window to help her felines get out of the burning home.

Wilson’s Mills, Clayton and Smithfield Fire Departments fought the fire. The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office and Johnston County Animal Control were called to the scene. The home was left unlivable.

  1. Not at all. đŸ˜·đŸ¤®. They were my mom’s neighbors. I have pictures from inside the home. They kept the outside nice as not to draw attention to what was happening on the inside.

  2. Not a cat person but believe all animals need a good clean home. 50 cats in one mobile home is abusive. That is no way for cats to live.
How does one even get to that place? After cat number 2 or maybe 3 you have to say to yourself is it fair to the animals I already have to get more? Hope they find new place where they can live in better circumstances.

  3. Who has those poor babies now??? I’m a fur parent, I can not offer my home to any of them unfortunately but I would be more than happy to give donations of loving cuddles, food, litter and/or beds.
