Five Men Charged In Benson-Area Stabbing

BENSON – A Benson man is recovering from a serious stab wound and five people are in jail charged with the crime. At 1:52pm Tuesday, Johnston County deputies responded to a 911 call at 4321 NC Highway 242 South of Benson.

Officers and EMS reportedly found 31 year-old Marvin Lee Johnson inside the home suffering from a stab wound. An eyewitness was able to give law enforcement officers a description of the car the suspects drove away in. A short time later, Four Oaks Police located the car on Interstate 95, and with the assistance of other deputies, were able to stop the car near Highway 701.

Deputies reportedly found a knife and several firearms inside the vehicle.

Adrian Makiya Williams, 18, of River Road, Selma; Antwon Deon Speights Jr., 18, of W. Walnut Street, Selma; Avontae La’Quan William, 22, of Ricks Road, Selma; Jaheim Markee Newkirk, 19, of W. Stevens Street, Smithfield; and Jermon Abram Daniels, 22, of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Smithfield were all charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and felony conspiracy.

All five suspects were held at the Johnston County Jail on $150,000 secured bonds.

A motive remains under investigation, however the incident was reportedly not random.

Johnson was rushed to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
