Fleeing Driver Crashes Stolen Car During Two County Pursuit

A 21 year-old man is facing a long list of charges after leading officers in two counties on a high speed chase on a stolen vehicle.    Sunday morning, a Johnston County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding 80mph on Highway 42 near Highway 50.  The driver refused to pull over and accelerated to speeds over 100 miles per hour as the pursuit entered Wake County on Highway 42.

The driver nearly struck a car head on during the pursuit while passing illegally. Deputies noticed the driver was also tossing zip lock bags out the window during the chase.  The pursuit entered the Fuquay Varina city limits where the driver lost control and overturned on Highway 55.

Emergency personnel responded and removed the driver from the overturned vehicle.  Christian Castillo of Raleigh was evaluated by EMS at the scene before he was transported to the Johnston County Jail.

Authorities said the car had been reported stolen in Washington state and the license plate had been reported stolen in Johnston County.

Castillo was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, two counts of possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, speeding, driving on a revoked license and reckless driving.  A magistrate set his bail at $85,000.
