Florida Man Crashes Car During High Speed Chase

A 22 year-old Florida man was jailed after he reportedly led law enforcement officers on a high speed chase. Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 24th, a Johnston County sheriff’s detective was on Interstate 95 near Micro and spotted a 2021 Dodge Charger traveling southbound while speeding and driving recklessly. The detective was unable to catch up to the driver so he radioed ahead to other officers.

Another deputy spotted the speeding Charger exit off I-95 at US70 in Smithfield and attempted to stop the car as it turned onto Outlet Center Drive. The driver failed to stop and led officers on a chase in excess of 100 miles per hour along US70 East then along several rural roadways in the Brogden community until they lost sight of the vehicle.

A few minutes later, deputies located the vehicle on US70 near Princeton. Officers pursued the speeding car until it ran off the roadway into the woods at the intersection of Peedin Street and Peedin Street Extension near Pine Level. Troopers estimated the driver was traveling at 80mph at the time of the single vehicle crash.

The driver, Danquarius Lamar Longs, 22, of Lakeland, Florida was transported to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for treatment of minor injuries. Afterwards, he was taken to the Johnston County Jail and charged with several offenses including felony fleeing to elude arrest and reckless driving to endanger. Longs was given a $50,000s secured bond.
