Former Co-Worker Arrested For 2020 Sexual Assault At Local Business

SMITHFIELD – Following a lengthy investigation, Smithfield Police have arrested a suspect in the assault of a female employee inside a business last year.  On July 22, 2020, the victim who was 17 years-old at the time, told police she was working at Dunkin’ Donuts at 1006 N. Brightleaf Boulevard when she was assaulted.

The victim told police a co-worker had forced her to perform a sex act on him. The alleged incident occurred earlier that month.

After investigating the case, police obtained warrants against 19 year-old Giovanny Chevez Hernandez of Benson.  He was located July 11, 2021 and arrested on a felony warrant for second-degree forcible sex offense and two misdemeanor warrants for simple assault and sexual battery.

Hernandez was held on a $150,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.

Hernandez is no longer employed by the business. We reached out to Dunkin’ Donuts for a comment.  They did not respond.
