A former police officer has been arrested by Nash County authorities after heroin was reportedly found inside his Mercedes Benz.
The Tar River Regional Drug Task Force received information John Pelham Turner, 32, of Nashville, a former Town of Nashville police officer, had heroin in his vehicle. Agents spotted his vehicle around 4:00pm Tuesday and during a traffic stop on Highway 43 near Red Oak Road a K-9 alerted to possible narcotics.
During a search, two bricks (100 dosage units) of heroin were reportedly found in the trunk of his Mercedes. In addition, two empty bindles was found in Turner’s wallet and a needle syringe in his sock.
Turner was charged with three counts of trafficking heroin and one count of maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. He was placed in the Nash County Jail under a $155,000 bond pending his first court appearance on Thursday.
Turner was a police officer for the Town of Nashville between August 2008 and December 2010.
