Four Oaks Man Arrested For Possessing 11 Pounds Of Marijuana

A 47 year-old Four Oaks man was arrested during a traffic stop by Smithfield Police.  At 10:39am Monday, an officer stopped a vehicle on N. Brightleaf Boulevard for a registration violation. 

After approaching the car, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana.  During a search, two backpacks containing 11.68 pounds of marijuana was allegedly seized.

Edward Troy Nichols of Cove Lane was charged with two counts of trafficking marijuana and one count of maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. Nichols was held on a $50,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail.
