A Four Oaks man has been charged with stealing items from vehicles in business parking lots in Smithfield and the Cleveland community.
Stephen Dennis Williams, 59, of Four Oaks is facing charges from Smithfield Police and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
On September 24th, a customer was leaving Lowes Home Improvement on Cleveland Crossing Drive when he spotted a man reportedly removing items from his truck toolbox and placing them in a nearby SUV. The victim confronted the alleged thief, who reportedly said, “I am not stealing from you.”
The suspect returned the stolen items, except for a drill and nail gun, before fleeing in the SUV. The victim was able to take a photo of the suspect and his vehicle.
On October 3rd, Smithfield Police were called to a parking lot in the 1100 block of N. Brightleaf Boulevard. A Pikeville man reported his work van had been entered and $1,300 in power and hand tools had been removed.
Police responded and began canvassing the area. Officers said they located Stephen Dennis Williams, 59, of Four Oaks in the 1200 block of N. Brightleaf Boulevard. The stolen tools were recovered from Williams.
Williams was charged by Smithfield Police with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle and felony larceny.
Johnston County deputies charged Williams with the September 24th incident. The charges included breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny, and possession of stolen property. He was held on a $60,000 bond on the combined charges.
