Free WiFi Service Coming To Downtown Smithfield

The Town of Smithfield and Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation (DSDC) have obtained state funds to help pay for free downtown WiFi service to citizens and visitors.

With the support of NC House Representative Larry Strickland, a $25,000 grant has been obtained to support downtown initiatives.  The DSDC has committed an additional $6,960 in funds to support the installation, maintenance, and high speed internet service.  The Town agreed to pay $376.75 out of an Economic Development Initiative line item towards the project cost.

The free WiFi service will range from the areas of South 5th Street to the Neuse River from east to west and from Johnston Street to Bridge Street from south to north.

The free service should be available within 60 days.
