Fuel Spills On Several Miles Of Highway

The NC Department of Transportation has responded to a fuel spill today (Friday) in Wake and Johnston counties. A tractor trailer reportedly leaked a streak of diesel fuel from I-40 in Wake County, down Highway 70 into Johnston County and Clayton, then onto Highway 42 East to the Caterpillar plant.

Clayton Police have temporarily closed the turn lane and one eastbound lane of Highway 70 East at Shotwell Road until the DOT can respond with a load of sand.

There is no information on what caused the truck to leak the fuel. The truck was reportedly filled with about 200 gallons of diesel fuel. It is unknown how many gallons spilled.
